Another contrast bias people exhibit is the over-appreciation of near term goals, and under-appreciation of longer term goals. I'm dealing with a case of political maneuvering that accomplished a short term goal, but poisoned a long term relationship; now that person is stuck, as they need something from the person they harmed. In the past, I've seen people burn, or at least partially demolish, bridges to get something in the short term, only to need that relationship in the long-term. Probably one of the biggest favors you can do for yourself is trying to understand your true desires.
