Hyman Minsky would probably point to a chart like this as an indicator of why our banks are in such poor shape. The higher the ratio of corporate debt to the underlying demand deposits, it doesn't matter whether debt has tracked GDP or not (it has); when aggregate demand slumps, more debts relative to bank capital will default, and more banks will become insolvent....
