Hollywood Video had a $0.99/DVD rental deal, so I gathered up some media which looked interesting. 'Dead Like Me's pilot had a bunch of deadpan cynical humor, but also a tinge of emotion-tweaking. I think I'll get the other episode DVDs (Hollywood foolishly sent 4 coupons, each of which could be used for up to 3 DVDs), and see how this show unfolds.
Cynicism in the face of Death, a bit of Sentimentality, and a whole slew of humor make up the first three episodes, especially 'Reapercussions'. The young protagonist is trying to cope with her death and the immediacy of her family. Meanwhile, she has a new body she needs to maintain, i.e. get a job, find a place to live, all the while running around collecting people's souls.
