Geoffrey Moore the economist
Moore is one of the big reasons why the US has so much data about its economy in really good time (not real time ;). He worked with the early US economic data collectors (Wesley Mitchell, Arthur Burns, who were the two original big reasons) and carried on their work at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Later, he furthered research by becoming the Commissioner of Labor Statistics and demanding the collection of more statistics (which became the Employment Cost Index).
