The Hurt Locker -- A Kathryn Bigelow joint.

Easily the best Iraq war film out yet, Bigelow (of Point Break and Strange Days fame) combines Blown Away with Sniper to create a fairly tight action thriller, replacing the Bad Guy with the more appropriate for war Random Shit Will Get You Killed. The film pays a nominal obeisance to the common "war sucks and messes with your head", however Bigelow gives that too much screentime, the better part of the story revolves around two men and the tension between them when chain of command does not reflect relevant experience. That vein could have been mined further and would have been a more productive theme than the over-played 'war makes my head hurt'.
