The Road by Cormac McCarthy

This won a Pulitzer? That seems like 50% for this book and 50% of apologizing for fucking up on BloodMeridian.

Looking back on the past winners, it calls into question the ability of committees to spot promising works. Of course, works that should probably be there might not because the author didn't feel like playing a USD 50 lottery.

I loved The Road. Then again, I'm generally a fan of post-apocalyptic books (such as The Stand). I haven't read many other Pulitzer winners (or nominees or whatever) so I don't have much to compare it to on that front. If nothing else, it's better than most of the SF/F books I've read lately. -- Cal

Ever read A Canticle For Leibowitz? -- Patrick

No, I haven't heard of it before. I just ordered a used copy through Amazon. - Cal

What? You're too good for the Seattle Public Library? ;)

Pretty much. I don't go near it very often now and paying for parking or bus fare would be half the cost of the book.
