You Can Be A Stock Market Genius by Joel Greenblatt

You guessed it. Another good book with a stoopid title. Greenblatt walks you through how he made a slew of money for Gotham Capital by investing in special situations:

  1. spinoffs
  2. merger securities
  3. emergence from bankruptcy (see turnarounds)
  4. restructurings
And it doesn't hurt that he can write with enough humour to keep the ideas flowing easily. Although, if your eyes gloss over when you see depreciation and debentures, this ain't the book for you. ;)

But if reading financial statements is in your circle of competence, then this book goes well with QualityOfEarnings.
